Transport yourself to a community that still preserves its ancestral customs. They dress, dance and weave as they used to do it more than 200 years ago. A community where things have meaning and the relationship with mother earth is alive. Discover how their thoughts and words are woven into their outfits and how their fabrics are books that tell stories.

Let yourself be wrapped by the “chumbe” and the value of its story and its energy in each lap.

WHAT WILL I DO IN THIS EXPERIENCE?

You will start with a surprise! connect with a sample of its most important festival known as the “Kalusturinda” or “Atun puncha” which is a way they have to thank nature for the fruits of the earth received during the year.

The fabric identity, functions and meaning• You will see the treasure of the fabrics: the variety, how they wear it, the “WHY” of the woven – The “chumbe” and the “siñidor”, the meanings from spirituality, medicine, history (word and memory).

• You will learn the chumbe and the care of the energy for women and men. Meanings and functions in each cycle of life (from “guagua cuna” (baby) to adulthood).

How the tools are made: the woven, the plants and the pachamama. Names, uses and meanings.

The woven and symbols: The importance of intention. How to weave over the soil. The backstrap loom and the connection to the tree.

Go knitting: weaving and meanings.

WHO WILL MY HOSTS BE?

We are a whole team! Aura, Vanesa, Sandra, Felipe, Pablo and more, we are members of the INGA indigenous community. We are modern professionals aware of our ancestral roots. We have taken a space in our professional, academic and family life to cultivate our history. We join this project to give a sample to the world of the ancestral knowledge that we safeguard today.

WHERE WILL THE ACTIVITY BE HELD?

You will visit us near our house, between the forest, the river and the trees in our community located near the city of Sibundoy, Putumayo. Colombia. Over here it’s a bit cold, about 2,106 meters above sea level.


WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

• Prepare your favorite drink and some snacks to share while we go through this tour.
• List everything you know about native fabrics, intension, and symbologies. If you don’t have this part, don’t worry, here you will learn too much from this.
